Organized by the Mayor Gina Cunningham’s office, the event marked a significant cultural milestone for the diverse community nestled in the heart of Illinois.
The celebration, which took place on Sunday, November 12, saw hundreds of enthusiastic attendees from Woodridge and nearby towns gathering to partake in the festivities. diversity and fostering unity within the community.
The highlight of the evening was the ceremonial lighting of the Diwali oil lamp, a symbolic gesture representing the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. Swami Ishatmananda, the President of the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago, took center stage to explain the profound meaning and significance behind Diwali, adding a spiritual dimension to the joyous occasion.
Adding a burst of color and energy to the festivities, the talented dancers from the Culture In Motion Dance Studio performed captivating Diwali dances, enchanting the audience with their graceful movements and traditional attire. The beats of India echoed through the air as an Indian musical band group skillfully played the sitar and tabla instruments, transporting attendees to the heart of the Indian subcontinent.
The cultural extravaganza continued with soulful performances by vocalists from the Advika Academy Music School, who presented a delightful mix of Indian semi-classical and modern songs, creating a musical tapestry that resonated with the diverse audience.
As a token of appreciation and a lasting memento, all attendees were gifted LED Diwali lamps, symbolizing the spreading of light and joy in their homes. Additionally, a box of Indian snacks was distributed, allowing everyone to savor the flavors of India and further enriching the cross-cultural experience.
On behalf of Mayor Gina Cunningham, Dr. Dipak Ghosh expressed his gratitude to the community for their enthusiastic participation, emphasizing the importance of embracing and celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures that make Woodridge a truly unique and vibrant place to call home.
