US President Donald Trump has warned of potentially intense new military strikes against Iran, raising concerns that the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran could collapse and trigger another major escalation in the region.
According to reports, Trump told officials during a Cabinet gathering at Camp David on Friday that the United States would be “hitting them very hard” and suggested that continued military pressure could eventually force Iran to back down. He also said that the objective was to “win” and expressed growing frustration with Tehran.
US military officials are reportedly preparing plans for a renewed assault, potentially targeting parts of Iran’s energy infrastructure and refineries. Israeli officials have also reportedly been informed and are coordinating with Washington.
However, Trump has not yet issued a final order authorizing the strikes. Discussions among US officials have reportedly included the possibility of completing any military action before financial markets reopen on Monday, amid concerns about the potential impact on the US and global economy.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the United States would prevail and reiterated Washington’s position that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell also said the US military remains prepared for possible action.
The latest threats come after months of conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. The war began on February 28 following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran and later entered a fragile truce. Despite the ceasefire, military exchanges and diplomatic tensions have continued.
The situation has also affected the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, where disruptions to shipping have threatened global supplies of crude oil, natural gas and fertilisers. Drone and missile attacks in the Persian Gulf region have further disrupted energy and maritime operations.
Any renewed US strikes on Iran could sharply escalate regional tensions, disrupt global energy markets and complicate ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
