Netanyahu accepts US proposal on hostage deal; Blinken calls on Hamas to do the same

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a U.S. proposal regarding the release of hostages, following a three-hour meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Jerusalem. This agreement marks a crucial step toward resolving the ongoing hostage situation, with Netanyahu affirming Israel’s commitment to the U.S. proposal, which includes provisions for Israel’s security needs.

Blinken described the meeting as “very constructive” and emphasized that it is now crucial for Hamas to accept the proposal to finalize the hostages-for-ceasefire deal. The U.S. proposal is intended to facilitate a ceasefire agreement and resolve the situation involving hostages held by Hamas.

However, Hamas has rejected the U.S. proposal, accusing Netanyahu of setting new conditions to prolong the conflict. The proposal aims to finalize a deal by the end of the week, but progress hinges on Hamas agreeing to the terms. The U.S., Egypt, and Qatar are mediating the discussions to implement the proposed agreement.
