40 Dead in Israeli Strike on Gaza

An Israeli airstrike on tents housing displaced people in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, has resulted in the deaths of at least 40 Palestinians and injuries to more than 60 others, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

Palestinian medics reported that Israeli warplanes targeted tents at the entrance to Muwasi in Khan Younis, causing significant destruction and numerous casualties. Dr. Mohammed Al-Mughair, director of supply at the Civil Defense, confirmed the recovery of 40 bodies and the treatment of over 60 wounded individuals. He described the attack as one of the most severe massacres in the ongoing conflict, noting that the explosions created craters up to nine meters deep, indicating the use of powerful missiles.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that the strike aimed at senior Hamas leaders operating from a concealed command center in a humanitarian area. He claimed these individuals were involved in planning attacks against Israeli forces and civilians and emphasized that extensive measures were taken to minimize civilian casualties.

Hamas has yet to comment on the attack. Israel’s large-scale offensive against Hamas in Gaza follows a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and around 250 hostages.
