Preparations Underway for PM Modi’s Arrival at Diaspora Event in New York

Final arrangements are being made to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a diaspora rally this Sunday, where over 16,000 attendees are expected at the Nassau Coliseum.

The event, themed “Modi and US, Progress Together,” falls between Modi’s participation in the Quad summit hosted by US President Joe Biden in Delaware on Saturday and his address at the United Nations “Summit of the Future” on Monday.

Organizers were taken aback by the overwhelming interest, receiving more than 25,000 applications for attendance. Avinash Gupta, president of the tri-state chapter of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), confirmed that they had to narrow it down to about 16,000 to accommodate the venue.

A cultural program will precede Modi’s speech, with 159 applications submitted for performances, out of which 15 were selected. Emphasis was placed on children’s performances that will showcase the diversity of Indian culture.

Due to the event occurring just 44 days before the US elections, no politicians will be on stage, although some may attend as audience members.

Prime Ministers Anthony Albanese of Australia and Fumio Kishida of Japan will represent their countries at the Quad summit. The “Summit of the Future” aims to unite world leaders to address the UN’s agenda and tackle emerging global challenges.

During his time in New York, PM Modi is expected to hold meetings with various world leaders attending the summit. Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, has indicated he will meet Modi, having held a rally at the Nassau Coliseum earlier this week where Modi is set to speak.
