Biden Postpones Foreign Trip Due to Hurricane Milton
US President Joe Biden has postponed his planned trip to Germany and Angola later this week to focus on preparations for Hurricane Milton, expected to hit Florida.
“Given the projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his upcoming trip to oversee preparations and responses to both Hurricane Milton and the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced on Tuesday.
The President began his day at the White House with a briefing on the federal response to Hurricane Helene and preparations for Hurricane Milton, followed by an update on these efforts, as reported by Xinhua.
“We’re going to stay focused on what’s ahead of us right now,” Biden stated regarding the decision to delay his foreign trip.
Initially, Biden was set to leave on Thursday for Berlin, where he planned to convene the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to coordinate support for Ukraine before traveling to Angola. He expressed intentions to reschedule both visits with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
