Ratan Tata to Be Cremated with Full State Honours: Maharashtra CM
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Thursday that the last rites of renowned industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night at the age of 86 due to age-related health conditions, will be conducted with full state honours.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Shinde described Ratan Tata as a unique blend of ethics and entrepreneurship. “He was a living legend who successfully led the Tata Group, an institution with a legacy of excellence and integrity spanning nearly 150 years. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him,” Shinde stated.
The Chief Minister added, “Ratanji Tata was the pride of India and will always be a role model for future generations of entrepreneurs.” He also highlighted Tata’s remarkable resilience following the 2008 Mumbai attacks, noting that his decisive actions, courageous spirit, and commitment to social causes will be remembered.
Ratan Tata, known for his genteel demeanor paired with sharp business acumen, served as Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, from 1991 until his retirement on December 28, 2012. Under his leadership, the group’s revenues soared, exceeding $100 billion in the 2011-12 fiscal year.
Born in Mumbai on December 28, 1937, Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962 as a young executive after earning a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University.
