Kejriwal Appeals to Delhi Voters for Re-Election as Chief Minister
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal made an emotional appeal to Delhi voters on Wednesday, urging them to re-elect him as Chief Minister in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In a letter addressed to the people of Delhi, Kejriwal accused the BJP of conspiring to impede development in the national capital and sought public support to overcome this challenge.
He asserted that he was jailed for five months not due to corruption, but for his efforts to enhance the city’s infrastructure and services. “I believe you will re-elect the AAP government in Delhi to continue all the work. With your vote, I will again take on the responsibility of Chief Minister and continue to work for you,” he wrote in Hindi.
Kejriwal questioned the reasons behind his imprisonment, stating, “They kept me in jail for five months. Why? Because of the work I’m doing for you in Delhi that they wanted to stop. They arrested me to halt these services.” He highlighted that the BJP’s envy of Delhi’s progress stems from their inability to replicate similar achievements in other states.
“I have done work in Delhi that has never been seen before in the country. They have governments in 22 states but cannot replicate our successes. People in those states are asking why similar initiatives aren’t happening there, and they have no answer,” he noted.
Kejriwal also claimed that after AAP’s success in Punjab, the BJP plotted to undermine the party’s work in Delhi, fearing that AAP’s growing influence could become a threat. “For the past 10 years, they have tried to obstruct Delhi’s progress through the LG, but I didn’t let that happen. I know how to get things done,” he added.
He accused the BJP of attempting to sabotage his health while he was in jail, alleging, “They were so afraid of my good work that they made every effort in jail to prevent me from coming out healthy. They stopped my medication, which could have jeopardized my health.”
Kejriwal emphasized that numerous development projects, such as road repairs and improvements in water supply, were halted during his imprisonment, but assured the public that these would be resumed. He warned that the BJP intends to regain power to halt ongoing work in Delhi.
He painted a dire picture of the consequences if the BJP were to take control, stating, “They will stop your free electricity, return power cuts, ruin government schools and hospitals, shut down Mohalla Clinics, and end free water and transportation for women.”
Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s governance in the 22 states they control, citing issues like long power cuts and deteriorating public services.
“I went to jail for you. If I hadn’t worked hard to provide these services, they would never have sent me to jail. My colleagues and I have no regrets; our lives are dedicated to serving the country,” he stated.
In closing, Kejriwal urged Delhi residents to vote for AAP to safeguard the progress made in the city. “With the power of your vote, you can protect the work being done in Delhi. Together, we will defeat the BJP’s conspiracy in the upcoming elections,” he concluded.
