Omar Abdullah Instructs J&K DGP to Avoid ‘Green Corridor’ for CM’s Movement

In his first public initiative as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah directed DGP Nalin Prabhat to ensure that no ‘green corridor’ is created for his movements, emphasizing the importance of minimizing inconvenience to citizens.

Historically, traffic has been halted on both sides to facilitate the unhindered passage of the chief minister’s convoy for security reasons. Abdullah took to X to announce his decision, stating, “I have spoken to the DG @JmuKmrPolice that there is to be no ‘green corridor’ or traffic stoppage when I travel by road. I’ve instructed him to minimize public inconvenience, and the use of sirens should be kept to a minimum. Aggressive gestures or stick waving are to be completely avoided. I’m also asking my cabinet colleagues to set the same example. Our conduct must be people-friendly; we are here to serve the public, not inconvenience them.”

Following Abdullah’s swearing-in as chief minister, Prime Minister Modi congratulated him on X, expressing optimism about the Centre’s collaboration with Abdullah’s administration for the development of J&K.

Earlier in the day, Abdullah was sworn in by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, alongside five MLAs—Surinder Choudhary, Sakina Itoo, Javaid Ahmad Rana, Javaid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma—who took their oaths as ministers. He appointed Surinder Choudhary as the deputy chief minister to ensure proper representation for the Jammu division, a commitment he made prior to forming the government.

Omar Abdullah, now serving as the 14th chief minister of J&K, previously held the position from 2009 to 2015. Following his oath, he chaired a meeting with all administrative secretaries of the UT administration at the civil secretariat in Srinagar.
