Field Hockey to Be Excluded from 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Field hockey will not be featured in the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow, according to sources. An official announcement regarding this decision is expected later today.

The 2022 edition of the CWG in Birmingham included 19 sports, but the Glasgow organizing committee has confirmed that only 10 sports will be included in the 2026 Games.

In Birmingham, India achieved remarkable success, winning a total of 61 medals, including 22 golds. Key contributions came from wrestling (12 medals), weightlifting (10), athletics (8), and both boxing and table tennis (7 each).

Field hockey has been part of the Commonwealth Games since 1998, with Australia consistently dominating the sport. The Australian men’s team has secured gold in all seven previous editions (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), while the women’s team has won the title four times, alongside one silver and one bronze.

India’s field hockey teams have earned a total of six medals: the men’s team has claimed three silver medals (in 2010, 2014, and 2022), while the women’s team won gold in 2002, silver in 2006, and bronze in 2022.
