Hamas Claims Attacks on Israeli Forces in Gaza
The Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, announced that they targeted Israeli soldiers and military vehicles in several operations in the northern Gaza Strip.
In statements on Sunday, the brigades reported attacking an Israeli Merkava tank with a “Yassin 105” missile and a Namer armored personnel carrier with a “Tandem” missile near the Jabalia camp. They also claimed to have injured two Israeli soldiers with sniper fire in the same area.
Additionally, the brigades stated they destroyed another Israeli Namer armored personnel carrier using a “Shawah” explosive device in northwest Gaza City. They noted that their fighters infiltrated behind Israeli troops advancing east of Jabalia on Saturday night, successfully attacking two armored personnel carriers.
The Israeli army confirmed the killing of a senior officer due to an explosive device in northern Gaza and reported injuries to three other officers, one of whom is in critical condition.
The Israeli military continues its ground operation in Jabalia, now in its 16th day, aiming to prevent Hamas from regrouping for further attacks. Military spokesman Avichai Adraee stated that operations are ongoing, resulting in the elimination of numerous combatants and significant infrastructure destruction, along with the confiscation of large quantities of weapons.
This escalation follows Hamas’s incursion into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and around 250 hostages.
