J&K: Terrorists Attack Army Vehicle, Encounter Underway in Akhnoor
In a recent incident in Jammu & Kashmir’s Akhnoor area, terrorists attempted to ambush an army vehicle on Monday morning, leading to an ongoing encounter.
Officials reported that the ambush occurred in the Battal region of Akhnoor. Fortunately, the attack was thwarted, prompting security forces to initiate a cordon operation. Intense exchanges of gunfire have ensued between the terrorists and the armed forces, with all possible escape routes for the attackers being sealed.
Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, according to officials.
In the wake of successful Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, terrorist activities in J&K have reportedly escalated, driven by directives from their handlers across the border.
Just last Thursday, a similar attack targeted an army vehicle in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two civilian porters. A soldier who was critically injured later succumbed, bringing the death toll from the Botapathri incident to five. Notably, this attack occurred in a region typically considered safe from militancy and is popular among tourists.
Earlier, on October 20, terrorists targeted a workers’ camp in Gagangir, Ganderbal district, killing seven individuals, including six non-local laborers and a Kashmiri doctor. The assailants attacked unarmed workers engaged in constructing a tunnel along the Srinagar-Leh national highway, which, once completed, will enhance connectivity and support local economic development in the area.
