Ruben Amorim Named Head Coach of Manchester United Until June 2027

Manchester United has officially appointed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach of the men’s first team, signing him to a two-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027.

The club announced, “Manchester United is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach, pending work visa requirements. He will join us until June 2027, with an option for an additional year, once he fulfills his commitments to his current club. Amorim will arrive on November 11.”

Amorim will succeed interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who stepped in following the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag. Van Nistelrooy will continue to manage the team until Amorim officially takes over after the November international break.

“Ruben is among the most exciting and highly regarded young coaches in European football. He has an impressive track record as both a player and a coach, having won the Primeira Liga twice with Sporting CP, including the club’s first title in 19 years,” the statement added.

Reports indicate that Manchester United spent approximately €11 million to buy out the remainder of Amorim’s contract with Sporting CP.

Amorim’s appointment comes after a challenging start to the Premier League season for Manchester United, who currently sit in 14th place after nine matches. His first match in charge will be against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on November 24.
