Iran’s FM Condemns Germany for Closing Iranian Consulates
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has condemned Germany’s decision to close its Iranian consulates in response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a dual national of Germany and Iran.
His remarks came in a social media post on platform X, following Germany’s announcement that it would shut down all three Iranian consulates in the country, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Araghchi stated, “The closure of Iran’s consulates in Germany is a sanction against Iranians living there, many of whom are German citizens.” He criticized the German government for imposing sanctions on “tens of thousands of other Iranians with German passports,” claiming it was in support of a terrorist responsible for a bombing in Shiraz, Iran, in 2008 that killed 14 people and injured over 200.
The affected Iranian consulates are located in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich, while the Iranian embassy in Berlin will remain open.
Sharmahd was executed on Monday for his alleged involvement in multiple “terrorist” attacks against Iranian citizens.
