Amit Shah and Jyotiraditya Scindia to Attend NEC Plenary Session in Agartala
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with the Governors and Chief Ministers of all eight northeastern states, will attend the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Agartala next week. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, after reviewing the preparations for the two-day event, confirmed that an official-level meeting will be held on December 20, followed by the main session at Pragya Bhavan on December 21.
Saha also mentioned that Shah would arrive in Agartala on December 20 to attend the NEC meeting the next day. Governors, Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and top officials from both the Centre and the eight northeastern states are expected to participate in the meeting, which will focus on the progress of ongoing and proposed development projects.
On December 22, a review meeting of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) will take place, with Union Home Minister Shah and ISRO Chairman S. Somanath in attendance. NESAC, located in Meghalaya’s Umiam, uses satellite-based imagery to support the northeastern states in various projects, from agriculture to infrastructure development.
The NEC plenary session was initially scheduled for August and September but was postponed due to devastating floods in Tripura. The Union Home Minister had previously highlighted the NEC’s significant role in accelerating development in the region, with major infrastructure developments and initiatives being realized over the past five decades.
