‘Looking forward to working together on outcome oriented agenda’ EAM Jaishankar on meeting with US NSA Michael Waltz in Washington
India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met the newly-appointed US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz in Washington D.C. on Tuesday and expressed his eagerness to work together on an active, outcome-oriented agenda.
Before meeting with NSA Waltz, EAM Jaishankar also held talks with newly-elected US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and participated in the first Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting of the new Trump administration alongside his counterparts from Australia, Japan, and the US.
“Great to meet NSA @michaelgwaltz again this afternoon. Discussed strengthening our friendship to ensure mutual benefit and enhance global stability and prosperity. Looking forward to working together on an active and outcome-oriented agenda,” the EAM said on social media platform X after the meeting.
Jaishankar, who is in Washington D.C. at the invitation of the US government to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration, also had a meeting with NSA Waltz at the White House. The EAM was seated in a place of honor at the inauguration ceremony on January 20, 2025.
Previously, in December 2024, EAM Jaishankar had met with Trump’s NSA Michael Waltz. During that meeting, the two leaders discussed the bilateral partnership between India and the US, as well as current global issues.
Waltz, a Congressman from Florida and a retired Army colonel, has been serving as National Security Adviser under President Trump. He has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s foreign policy, especially in relation to Afghanistan, Ukraine, and NATO defense spending. He has also been involved with the India Caucus in the US Congress, advocating for stronger US-India ties.
As NSA, Waltz will engage with Ajit Doval, the Indian National Security Adviser, as they work on advancing security cooperation and addressing global challenges.
