Jordanian and Uzbek foreign ministers vow to enhance bilateral cooperation

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with his Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov to discuss ways to expand cooperation across various sectors.

The two officials expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and explored opportunities for cooperation in the economy, trade, politics, investment, culture, defense, security, and counterterrorism, according to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

Political consultations and regional developments

During the meeting on Sunday, Safadi and Saidov agreed to launch an institutional mechanism for political consultations, with the first meeting scheduled for this year to define cooperation areas and outline agreements to enhance collaboration.

The two ministers also discussed regional developments, including efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate humanitarian aid, and promote security, stability, and peace in the region.

Concrete steps to expand cooperation

The ministers expressed confidence in the potential for joint initiatives and discussed concrete steps to expand trade, attract investment, and implement humanitarian projects.

Agreements signed

During the meeting, Safadi and Saidov signed several agreements, including:

  • A visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic passports.
  • A bilateral cooperation program for the next two years, covering areas such as international and regional cooperation, legal cooperation, consular consultations, and information exchange.

The two countries also established a visa-free regime for diplomatic passport holders, as outlined in an intergovernmental agreement. Additionally, the ministers approved a cooperation plan between their foreign ministries for the 2025–2027 period, further strengthening their bilateral ties.

This meeting underscores the mutual commitment of Jordan and Uzbekistan to deepen partnerships and foster mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors.
