BCCI hails Team India’s unbeaten run to Champions Trophy glory
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated Team India on their dominant triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, celebrating their unbeaten run and reaffirming their position as the top-ranked team in ODIs and T20Is.
India’s spinners played a crucial role, taking five wickets collectively on a sluggish pitch, while captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a top score of 76 runs. KL Rahul stayed composed, scoring an unbeaten 34, guiding India to a four-wicket win over New Zealand in the final on Sunday.
“From the very outset, the team pursued excellence, overcoming formidable challenges with a brand of cricket that was both fearless and disciplined. Their unbeaten run in an ICC tournament is a true reflection of their consistency, strategic execution, and hunger to succeed on the global stage,” the BCCI statement read.
BCCI lauds Rohit Sharma’s leadership
BCCI president Roger Binny called the victory a “landmark moment for Indian cricket”, following their T20 World Cup success in 2024.
“To dominate yet another global tournament and bring home the Champions Trophy is a phenomenal achievement. The team has played with unparalleled consistency and character. I congratulate captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the entire squad for their historic success,” he stated.
The BCCI praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership, highlighting that this was India’s second ICC title in less than nine months, following their T20 World Cup victory against South Africa in Bridgetown in 2024.
“His ability to inspire and lead by example played a defining role in India’s victorious campaign… These twin titles firmly establish his legacy as one of India’s finest and most successful captains,” the statement added.
With two ICC titles in less than a year, Rohit Sharma surpasses legendary Indian captains Sourav Ganguly (2002 Champions Trophy) and Kapil Dev (1983 ODI World Cup).
BCCI officials celebrate India’s dominant run
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia praised India’s dedication and fearless execution.
“India’s triumph in the Champions Trophy 2025 reflects their perseverance, meticulous preparation, and fearless execution. The team has showcased exceptional skill and unity, making the entire nation proud,” he said.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla acknowledged the team’s remarkable blend of experience and youth, calling their dominant performance an inspiration for future generations.
The BCCI also recognized head coach Gautam Gambhir for his fearless approach and tactical insight, which played a crucial role in shaping the victorious team.
“His emphasis on self-belief and strategic execution was evident in the way the players carried themselves throughout the competition,” the statement added.
BCCI treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and joint secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai echoed similar sentiments, celebrating India’s outstanding teamwork, depth, and strength in international cricket.
“This victory is a testament to the talent and perseverance of Indian cricket. The way this team has performed under pressure and delivered in crucial moments is truly commendable,” Bhatia said.
“The Champions Trophy 2025 victory is the result of relentless hard work and determination. This is indeed a proud moment for the entire nation,” Dessai concluded.
