
HM Amit Shah in Kashmir, to hold security review meetings today
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and will chair high-level security and development review meetings in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Following a night’s stay at Raj Bhawan, Shah is scheduled to begin his engagements at 11 a.m. He will first review developmental projects across the Union Territory (UT). The meeting will be attended by J&K Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Later in the day, Shah will preside over a crucial security review meeting. Key attendees include Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IB Director Tapan Deka, senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs, J&K Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies. Both meetings will take place at Raj Bhawan.
Upon his arrival on Monday, Amit Shah visited Humhama, near Srinagar International Airport, to meet the family of martyred J&K Police Dy SP Humayun Bhat, who was killed in action on September 13, 2023, during an anti-terror operation in Kokernag Tehsil, Anantnag. Shah offered condolences and met Humayun’s parents, wife Fatima, and blessed their 20-month-old child. Humayun was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for bravery.
L-G Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah accompanied Shah during the condolence visit. The home minister later returned to Raj Bhawan for meetings with individuals and delegations.
Earlier in Jammu, Shah met with the families of four policemen martyred in the Kathua district and handed over compassionate appointment orders to their next of kin. During the visit, he emphasized that while terrorism in the region has declined, efforts are ongoing to achieve complete peace.
He also held a closed-door meeting with BJP and RSS members at the Jammu residence of Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly.
In Kathua, Shah visited a BSF border outpost, praising the force for their commitment to securing India’s frontiers under extreme conditions. He assured them of continued government support and advanced surveillance technology to enhance border security.
The Home Minister is expected to return to Delhi on Tuesday afternoon after concluding his engagements in Srinagar.
