Shah and Jaishankar brief President, envoys on Pahalgam attack
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday regarding the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The meeting marked a pivotal moment in the government’s response to the tragedy, which claimed multiple civilian lives, including one foreign national.
Alongside this high-level briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched an intensive diplomatic campaign to update key international partners. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri led the outreach, hosting a series of briefings for ambassadors and diplomats from major countries including the US, UK, EU, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, China, and Gulf nations such as Qatar, UAE, and Oman.
The briefings, held at the MEA headquarters in South Block, aimed to present a detailed account of the attack, India’s immediate response, and the broader security measures being implemented. Each session lasted around 30 minutes and covered intelligence findings, operational actions, and India’s unwavering stance on fighting cross-border terrorism.
Notably, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong and Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov were among those who attended. The presence of representatives from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Malaysia, also highlighted the global concern over the attack.
EAM Jaishankar’s presence during the diplomatic sessions underscored India’s strategic importance on counterterrorism cooperation. The government emphasized that the outreach was not only to share facts but also to build a united global front against terrorism.
International condemnation of the Pahalgam attack has been swift, and the Indian government’s response—both domestically and diplomatically—reflects its commitment to national security and international collaboration in combating terrorism.
