Operation Sindoor: PM Modi to address nation at 8 p.m.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 p.m. on Monday, with sources suggesting that Operation Sindoor will be the main focus of his speech.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi chaired a high-level security meeting at his residence in New Delhi. Attendees included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of all three armed forces.

India has firmly reiterated that Operation Sindoor was a counterterrorism mission, not aimed at the Pakistani military. However, Pakistan’s direct military support for the terrorists forced India to escalate, according to Air Marshal A.K. Bharti during a press briefing by the DGMOs.

“Our targets were strictly terrorist bases,” said Bharti. “But Pakistan’s active involvement on behalf of those terrorists led to necessary retaliation.”

The meeting also included CDS General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, as well as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, IB Director Tapan Deka, and R&AW Chief Ravi Sinha.

Tensions escalated following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people were killed. India responded on May 7 with coordinated airstrikes on nine terrorist hideouts inside Pakistan, reportedly killing over 100 terrorists.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks at India, which were successfully intercepted. The Indian Air Force then conducted a 90-minute retaliatory operation that destroyed 11 Pakistani airbases — most of strategic importance.

On Saturday, following U.S. intervention, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding. The agreement brought an end to four days of cross-border military action and restored calm to the region. No incidents have been reported since.

As tensions ease, India has reopened 32 airports that were temporarily closed due to security concerns.
