India calls for Pakistan to hand over Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed

India’s Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, has called on Pakistan to hand over the leaders of two Pakistan-based global Islamist terror organizations, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), to India. Singh pointed out that Pakistan has allowed these groups to perpetrate numerous terror attacks on India, including the 2001 Parliament attack, 2008 Mumbai attacks, 2016 Uri and Pathankot air base attacks, and the 2019 Pulwama attack. Most recently, these groups were linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh questioned why, if the United States could extradite terror suspect Tahawwur Rana (linked to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks), Pakistan has not taken similar action against Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar. He also reaffirmed India’s resolve in fighting terrorism, noting that Operation Sindoor, which was launched by Indian forces in response to the Pahalgam attack, continues despite the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan.

Singh stated that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), signed between India and Pakistan, had been suspended in response to Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism. He explained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to suspend the IWT was in line with the belief that “blood and water cannot flow together.”

The Ambassador also highlighted the Indian forces’ successful actions during Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed terror infrastructure. He emphasized that India’s new approach is to follow an offensive strategy, continuing to target terrorist locations to safeguard its citizens.
