FIA Chicago announces 2025–26 executive board, reinforces vision for community engagement

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago, founded in 1980, is a premier nonprofit umbrella organization representing the dynamic Indian-American community across the Midwest. Serving as a unifying body for over 60 Illinois-based community groups and nonprofits, FIA-Chicago enhances cultural, educational, and social engagement through high-impact events such as the India Independence Day Parade and Republic Day celebrations. It actively promotes Indian heritage, civic participation, and inter-community collaboration. FIA also supports youth development, charitable causes, and public service initiatives. Through strong leadership, advocacy, and inclusive programs, FIA-Chicago continues to amplify the voice and visibility of the Indian diaspora, fostering pride, unity, and a deeper connection between Indian-Americans and the broader American society.

The Federation has now announced its new Executive Board for the term 2025–26. With a renewed focus on cultural engagement, civic participation, and community service, FIA is poised to build on its proud legacy.

Under the leadership of President Hemant Patel and Trustee Director Dr. Bharat Barai, the newly elected board has laid out a comprehensive calendar of patriotic and cultural events aimed at strengthening community ties and celebrating the rich heritage of the Indian diaspora.

Upcoming Events: A Call to Community Participation

FIA invites the Indian American community and its supporters to participate in the following 2025 events:

      • June 21 – Participation in the International Yoga Day organized by the Consulate General of India, Chicago

      • June 22 – FIA’s own International Yoga Day program

      • July 4 – Participation in the American Independence Day Parade

      • First Week of August – FIA Annual Community Picnic

      • August 10 – Participation in Bharat Independence Day Parade hosted by ICO, Naperville

      • August 15 – Indian Flag Hoisting Ceremony in downtown Chicago

      • August 16 – Tiranga Car Rally in Schaumburg

      • August 22 – Bharat Independence Day Patriotic Gala

      • August 24 – Grand Bharat Independence Day Parade on Devon Avenue

    Each event reflects FIA’s ongoing mission to engage the Indian-American population in meaningful celebrations that highlight cultural pride, patriotic fervor, and civic responsibility.


    FIA Executive Board 2025–26

    Trustee Director – Dr. Bharat Barai
    Dr. Bharat Barai, MD, is a respected oncologist and one of the senior-most Indian-American community leaders in the Chicago area. A past President and current Trustee Director of FIA Chicago, he has been instrumental in shaping the organization’s vision and mentoring future leaders. Dr. Barai has long championed civic engagement, interfaith harmony, and U.S.-India relations. Widely recognized for hosting dignitaries and organizing landmark community events, he serves as a bridge between cultures and generations.

    President – Hemant Patel
    President of FIA-Chicago and Founder of Sanatan Ecosystem (https://www.shreesanatan.com/), Hemant Patel holds a Master’s in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Engineering. With over 30 years of service, he has been a staunch promoter of Indian culture and civic pride in the Midwest.

    Executive Vice President – Anil Singh
    President of Karni Sena USA and an active voice for Hindu causes, Anil Singh is also a member of the Sanatan Ecosystem. He is a mechanical engineer and serves as Operations Manager at a Chicago-based nuclear pump company, balancing professional leadership with unwavering community dedication.

    Secretary – Dr. Avi Verma
    A visionary leader, Dr. Avi Verma is Secretary of FIA, Publisher of the IndoUS Tribune, and President of Jagran TV Chicago—the first non-commercial Hindu TV channel. A religious leader for over three decades, he is known for hosting Mata Ki Chowkis and promoting renowned devotional artists globally. He also chairs Midwest Clinicals, training future physicians for over 15 years.

    Treasurer – Amar Upadhyay
    An IT professional with database expertise, Amar Upadhyay has held leadership roles in OFBJP, Indian Community of Niles Township (ICNT), and Americans 4 Hindus (A4H) Super PAC, contributing significantly to both tech and civic spheres.

    Vice President – Joy (Dipen) Shah
    A former Treasurer of VHPA and core OFBJP member, Joy Shah is a successful entrepreneur with 30 years of experience. He actively supports temples and local agencies, helping uplift small business owners through mentorship and guidance.

    Vice President – Shailesh Rajput
    Founder of the Chicago Hindu Mahotsav Group NFP and Oriental Insurance Agency Inc., Shailesh Rajput has been an active community organizer since 1999. Born in Bharuch, Gujarat, he serves as a bridge between his cultural roots and American society through insurance services and religious festivals.

    Vice President – Rohit Joshi
    Originally from Petlad and now in Skokie, Illinois, Rohit Joshi is a retired Northeastern University professional and devoted Sanatan Dharma advocate. A respected Hindu priest and community leader, he promotes yoga and spiritual values, gaining recognition across Chicagoland.

    Joint Secretary – Arvind Ankleshwaria
    A veteran of the Indian Armed Forces and active in the Jain Temple, Hanuman Temple, and Gayatri Mandir, Arvind Ankleshwaria brings discipline and devotion to his role. His military and community service background make him a valuable asset to FIA.

    Joint Treasurer – Roshan Patel
    Roshan Patel is a seasoned entrepreneur in the energy industry and a committed community leader. As Joint Treasurer, he brings financial acumen and organizational experience from Bavis Gam Patidar Samaj and six years of impactful service to FIA’s goals.
