Trump reaffirms ceasefire claim as Iran strikes Israel again
US President Donald Trump on Monday reiterated his claim that both Israel and Iran approached him seeking peace, even as fresh missile attacks reignited tensions between the two nations.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘peace’! I knew the time was NOW. The World, and the Middle East, are the real winners!”
He added, “Both Nations will see tremendous love, peace and prosperity… The future for Israel & Iran is unlimited, & filled with great promise.”
However, his remarks came just hours after Iran launched six more ballistic missiles at Israel, one of which reportedly struck a building in Beersheba. While no injuries were immediately reported, Israel’s Home Front Command issued alerts urging residents to take cover. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that air defense systems were activated.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry swiftly denied Trump’s claim of a mutual ceasefire agreement, clarifying that Tehran had not received any formal proposal from Washington and that its pause in military operations was conditional on Israel halting its offensives.
Iran accused Israel of initiating the conflict and said it would resume its attacks if provoked again. Israel, for its part, has not officially responded to Trump’s declaration.
The war, now in its 12th day, began with Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion”, targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites. Iran has retaliated with waves of missile strikes, and the US further escalated the situation by bombing key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
Estimates suggest nearly 400 people have died in Iran and 24 in Israel since the conflict began.
