NSA Doval urges SCO to reject double standards on terrorism at Beijing meet

In a strong intervention at the 20th meeting of Security Council Secretaries of SCO member states, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday called for a united, uncompromising stand against terrorism, urging countries to abandon double standards and take decisive action against UN-designated terror groups.

Speaking in Beijing, NSA Doval cited the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22—in which The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, killed 26 Indian and Nepalese civilians—as a tragic reminder of the threat posed by cross-border terrorism. He emphasized that India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in response, was measured, non-escalatory, and aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure along the border.

Doval urged SCO members to ensure that perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorism, including groups like LeT, JeM, Al Qaeda, and ISIS, are held accountable under international law.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to regional peace, Doval highlighted India’s millennia-old values like ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) and sought support for Indian proposals, including joint action algorithms to combat radicalisation and extremist propaganda.

He also held bilateral meetings with top officials, including China’s Vice President Han Zheng, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Russia’s Security Council Deputy Secretary Aleksandr Venediktov, discussing regional security and cooperation on counter-terrorism.

The NSA’s visit underscored India’s growing engagement with SCO in shaping a unified counter-terrorism strategy while advocating for transparent, non-selective global responses to extremist threats.
