2 in 3 Indian MSMEs now digitally ready, says CMR report
A new report by CyberMedia Research (CMR) reveals that 67% of India’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are now digitally equipped, leveraging both core and advanced technologies to drive business outcomes.
According to the report, Indian MSMEs are increasingly adopting tools like cloud computing, ERP, and CRM platforms, with 43% already proficient in these core digital technologies. Additionally, 23% have embraced advanced digital solutions such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics — signaling a growing digital maturity.
“This signals a maturing digital ecosystem among Indian MSMEs,” the CMR report noted.
Digital guidance is also gaining momentum, with 62% of MSMEs seeking advisory services via online communities, forums, and professional networks. Around 70% of digitally aware businesses actively seek structured, reliable digital advisory platforms.
The report highlights that 59% of MSMEs rely on platforms like LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), and WhatsApp for business updates, peer learning, and industry insights.
“India’s digital momentum is being reshaped by MSMEs adopting technology to drive competitiveness and innovation. But challenges remain around awareness, digital skills, and cybersecurity,” said Prabhu Ram, Vice President, Industry Research Group, CMR.
He emphasized the importance of making digital advisory services accessible and structured to bridge these gaps.
MSMEs are set to play a crucial role in India’s journey toward becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. With an estimated 60 million enterprises, their growing digital footprint will be instrumental in sustaining India’s economic ascent — from the world’s 10th largest economy a decade ago to the 4th largest today.
