Trump hails Senate win for ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ on border, tax, and military funding

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday celebrated a major legislative win after the Senate passed his flagship “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping proposal that addresses immigration, tax cuts, and military spending.

Trump called the vote a “great victory” for the Republican Party as the bill moves to its next round of approvals.

“Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the ‘GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’” Trump wrote on X. He praised Senators Rick Scott, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Cynthia Lummis for their efforts, adding, “I look forward to working with them to grow our economy, secure our border, protect our Second Amendment, and fight for our military and veterans.”

Despite near-total Republican support, Senators Thom Tillis, Ron Johnson, and Rand Paul sided with Democrats, making the final tally a narrow 51–49.

The bill forms the cornerstone of Trump’s campaign platform and includes significant funding for border and national security. It proposes $350 billion for security operations, including $46 billion for extending the U.S.-Mexico border wall and $45 billion for 100,000 additional migrant detention facility beds.

It also seeks to extend the 2017 tax cuts initiated during Trump’s first term, while boosting military expenditure and reducing government waste. Medicaid reforms and Second Amendment protections are also key components.

The legislation is widely seen as a preparatory move for Trump’s promised mass deportation operation — touted as the largest in U.S. history — should he return to office.

The bill now heads to the House, where it is expected to face stiff Democratic opposition.
