Davide Ancelotti named new Botafogo manager in first solo coaching role
Davide Ancelotti, son of Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, has been named the new manager of Botafogo, the reigning Brazilian Serie A champions. The 35-year-old has signed a contract through December 2026, marking his first head coaching role.
Botafogo announced the appointment as part of a broader strategy to elevate the club’s global profile. “The hiring of Davide Ancelotti represents another strategic step in strengthening our sports project, based on innovation, ambition and international prominence,” the club said in a statement.
Ancelotti brings along a strong backroom staff, including Spanish assistant Luis Tevenet, British coach Andrew Mangan, and Italian fitness expert Luca Guerra.
Prior to this role, Davide worked exclusively as assistant to his father at major clubs including Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, Real Madrid, and most recently with the Brazil national team — a position he is expected to continue holding alongside his new responsibilities.
Botafogo parted ways with former manager Renato Paiva last week following a disappointing 1-0 extra-time loss to Palmeiras in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16. Despite that, Paiva led Botafogo to 12 wins in his short tenure.
Botafogo had an impressive Club World Cup run, famously beating UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Seattle Sounders in the group stage before losing to Atletico Madrid.
Currently eighth in the Brazilian Serie A, Botafogo is preparing to face Ecuador’s LDU Quito in the Copa Libertadores round of 16 in August.
