Congressman Krishnamoorthi addresses key issues, briefs IndoUS Tribune on recent initiatives

Speaking directly with IndoUS Tribune, the office of Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), who is currently a candidate for the U.S. Senate, provided details on two significant actions recently undertaken by the Congressman: the reintroduction of critical gun violence prevention legislation and his strong condemnation of recent hate-fueled vandalism in a Chicago neighborhood.

Legislation Aims to Introduce Three-Day Waiting Period for Handgun Purchases

Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s office informed IndoUS Tribune today about the reintroduction of the Choosing Our Own Lives Over Fast Firearms (COOL OFF) Act. This legislation seeks to implement a mandatory three-business-day waiting period for all handgun purchases across the nation. IndoUS Tribune learned that the bill has already secured the support of 16 original cosponsors.

The Congressman’s office explained that the initiative draws inspiration from a 2017 Harvard Business School study, which suggests that such waiting periods can be an effective tool against “crimes of passion” and suicides. By introducing a brief delay before a firearm can be accessed, the bill aims to prevent impulsive acts that often lead to tragic outcomes. With gun violence continuing to claim tens of thousands of lives annually, analysis of prior federal waiting period laws indicates that a three-day delay could potentially reduce gun homicides by as much as 17 percent.

“Gun violence continues to tear through our communities, and Congress cannot keep sitting on its hands,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi conveyed to IndoUS Tribune. “The COOL OFF Act offers a commonsense, research-backed solution: pause before purchase. This waiting period will save lives—not someday, but immediately. We need to act before more families lose loved ones to tragedies that a brief cooling-off period could have prevented.”

His office added that the legislation has also received an endorsement from the Newtown Action Alliance, a prominent organization dedicated to preventing gun violence.

Congressman Denounces “Cowardly Acts of Hate” in Little Village

Closer to home, Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s office also briefed IndoUS Tribune on his immediate response to recent acts of hateful vandalism that targeted several buildings, including community centers, in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood. The vandalism reportedly included the defacement of properties with swastikas and anti-immigrant graffiti.

In a statement provided to IndoUS Tribune, Congressman Krishnamoorthi unequivocally condemned these incidents.”These cowardly acts of hate are meant to intimidate and divide, but they will fail,” the Congressman asserted. He communicated his firm solidarity with the residents of Little Village and the community organizations directly impacted by what he termed a “vile attack.”

“There is no place for anti-immigrant extremism or Nazi imagery in any of our neighborhoods,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi stated, emphasizing the critical need for unity against xenophobia and all forms of hate. He specifically highlighted the importance of this stance “at a time when immigrant communities are under siege.”

These details provided by Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s office to IndoUS Tribune reflect his continued engagement on both national policy matters and pressing local community issues, particularly those affecting the safety and well-being of residents in his district.
