On the sacred soil of Varanasi stands the revered Shri Kashi Gyanpeeth, a spiritual center illuminating not only India but the world with the eternal wisdom of the Veerashaiva tradition. At its helm is His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Chandrashekhar Shivacharya Mahaswamiji — a towering spiritual figure, a visionary cultural revivalist, and a tireless crusader for social awareness.

As he celebrates his 79th birthday, this tribute is more than a greeting — it is a remembrance of a transformative journey that has helped many discover their true identity.

A journey of rediscovery

Our family’s awakening began in 2006 during a live broadcast of a religious event from Varanasi. My father, Shri Deendayal Jangam, watched intently as the term “Jangam” echoed repeatedly — a word that matched our surname but had long remained just a name, without known legacy.

For the first time, it struck us: this was not merely a label but a connection to a deep spiritual heritage.

Our curiosity led us to explore Jangambadi Math in Varanasi, one of the most ancient seats of Veerashaiva learning where Mahaswamiji continues the sacred mission of dharma. We learned that “Jangam” is a living tradition tied to Veerashaiva philosophy, Ishtalinga sadhana, and a lineage of spiritual discipline. It was a moment of revelation and rediscovery of identity.

A cultural renaissance in Rajasthan

In 2011, we organized a grand Shravan Maas event in Rajasthan, graced by Mahaswamiji and devotees from across India. For the first time, Rajasthan witnessed the spiritual depth and cultural richness behind the name “Jangam.”

The event was more than a gathering — it was a rebirth of our identity, faith, and dignity.

79th birthday of Jagadguru Chandrashekhar ShivacharyaSince then, Mahaswamiji has made regular visits to Rajasthan. Through his teachings, initiations (dikshas), and discourses, many began to understand the Jangam community’s legacy. The question “Who are we?” found an inspiring answer — one that kindles pride and purpose.

Revitalizing spiritual roots and social empowerment

Jagadguru Dr. Chandrashekhar Shivacharya Mahaswamiji has not only reconnected us with our spiritual roots but has laid a foundation for social, educational, and cultural empowerment.

Inspired by him, many youth are embracing Veerashaiva dharma, Ishtalinga sadhana, and its vast literature. He has revitalized temples, pilgrimage sites, and supported education, scholarships, Sanskrit learning, and global religious outreach.

As the inheritor of this lineage, I, Richa Jangam, am honored to continue this mission and spread awareness in Rajasthan. While many now know our history and purpose, many still remain unaware of this divine tradition.

A tribute of devotion and gratitude

As we celebrate Mahaswamiji’s 79th birthday, we honor not just his life, but the awakening he has ignited within us all.

This article is a humble offering of devotion, gratitude, and resolve.

We bow in deep reverence at his feet.
