Baloch leader urges US to sanction Pakistan’s army instead of banning BLA

Tara Chand, chief of the Baloch American Congress and former Balochistan Cabinet Minister, has criticised the US decision to designate the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its front group, The Majeed Brigade, as foreign terrorist organisations (FTOs). He argued that instead of targeting the BLA, President Donald Trump should impose severe sanctions on Pakistan’s military, calling it “the world’s number one terrorist army.”

In a post on X, Chand accused the Pakistani Army of sheltering Osama bin Laden for a decade and fostering extremist groups that threaten global security. He described Pakistan as a “terrorist state” run by an army that has long waged a campaign of “terror, torture, and oppression” against the people of Balochistan.

Chand urged Washington to “open its eyes, stand with the oppressed, and hold the Pakistani Army accountable.” His comments follow a series of sharp attacks on Pakistan’s military leadership, particularly Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, who recently visited the US.

Munir, during his trip, issued nuclear threats and warned India against restricting the Indus River, vowing to destroy any dam India might build. Chand labelled Munir a “fake Field Marshal” and “enemy of humanity,” accusing him of religious extremism under the guise of Islam.

Calling Munir’s remarks a wake-up call, Chand urged world leaders to strip Pakistan of its nuclear arsenal and impose sweeping economic, political, and international sanctions. He warned that Pakistan’s leadership harbours destructive ambitions and must be prevented from inflicting global harm.

The comments highlight the growing tensions between Baloch activists abroad and Pakistan’s military establishment, amid ongoing accusations of human rights abuses in Balochistan.
