Jaishankar, Lavrov to hold high-level talks in Moscow
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday (August 21) to further strengthen the India-Russia “special privileged strategic partnership.”
The talks will span a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, with an emphasis on boosting economic resilience and advancing multipolar cooperation. A central focus will be on developing transport, logistics, and financial systems that can function independently of sanctions, while also expanding the use of national currencies in trade.
The visit highlights New Delhi and Moscow’s shared intent to deepen engagement across multiple platforms, including the UN, BRICS, SCO, and G20. Officials on both sides have reiterated that mutual trust and respect remain the cornerstone of their long-standing partnership.
Key areas of bilateral dialogue are expected to include cooperation in defence production, energy, finance, science, culture, and agriculture. The ministers will also review progress in infrastructure and scientific-technical collaboration, while mapping out the schedule for upcoming high-level contacts.
On the global front, Jaishankar and Lavrov are likely to exchange views on critical international issues such as the conflict in Ukraine, Afghanistan’s evolving situation, the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation, and Asia-Pacific security dynamics.
Both nations continue to advocate for a multipolar global order, which they regard as vital to ensuring international stability. Russia has emphasized its commitment to building an inclusive system rooted in constructive dialogue and mutual respect.
The Moscow meeting is viewed as a reaffirmation of the strategic depth of Indo-Russian ties and a step toward reinforcing cooperation in a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape.
