FBI raids home of former NSA John Bolton days after his criticism of Trump
In a dramatic development, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the Maryland home of former U.S. National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton early Friday morning. The operation comes just days after Bolton strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to impose steep tariffs on India over its imports of Russian oil.
According to reports, FBI agents arrived at Bolton’s Bethesda residence around 7 a.m. (local time). The raid was authorized by FBI Director Kash Patel, who later posted on X: “NO ONE is above the law…FBI agents on mission.”
The investigation reportedly concerns classified documents linked to Bolton, a probe that began years earlier but was later closed by the Biden administration “for political reasons,” according to officials cited by the New York Post.
As the raid unfolded, Bolton posted on X at 7:32 a.m., criticizing Trump’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war. He argued that Moscow still aims to rebuild a Russian empire and insisted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would never concede occupied territories. Bolton suggested that Trump’s diplomatic push was more about pursuing a Nobel Peace Prize than achieving meaningful progress.
This is not the first time Bolton has faced scrutiny over classified material. His 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened, was accused by Trump of revealing national security secrets. Despite Trump’s legal efforts to block its release, the book was published and became a bestseller.
Since leaving office, Bolton has frequently clashed with Trump on foreign policy and national security. Earlier this year, Trump revoked the security clearances of 50 former intelligence officials, including Bolton, as part of his second-term measures.
The FBI has not issued an official statement on the raid, leaving questions about the scope and timing of the investigation.
