PM Modi holds talks with Fijian PM Rabuka to strengthen India-Fiji partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with his Fijian counterpart, Sitiveni Rabuka, at Hyderabad House on Monday to further deepen the long-standing India-Fiji partnership.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on X: “Welcoming an important Global South and FIPIC partner. PM Narendra Modi received PM Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji at Hyderabad House for delegation-level talks.”
This is Rabuka’s first visit to India in his current capacity. He arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, accompanied by his spouse Sulueti Rabuka, Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, and senior officials.
PM Modi will also host a lunch in Rabuka’s honour. Earlier, the Fijian leader paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and is expected to deliver a lecture on “Ocean of Peace” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
The visit follows the 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Suva in July 2025, where both nations reviewed cooperation in health, education, trade, investment, agriculture, renewable energy, climate change, and cultural exchanges.
India’s delegation was led by Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), MEA, while Fiji was represented by Raijeli Taga, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. The next round of consultations will take place in New Delhi in 2026.
Rabuka is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu, who visited Fiji in August 2024 and addressed its Parliament, highlighting the “close ties” between the two countries.
The MEA noted that Rabuka’s visit underscores the enduring relationship and reaffirms the shared commitment of India and Fiji to deepen cooperation across all sectors and strengthen people-to-people ties.
