The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago marked India’s 79th Independence Day with a grand gala and parade on August 22, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1980.

The evening began with a tribute to the 26 lives lost in Pahalgam, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, the national anthems, and ‘Vande Mataram.’ A highlight of the program was Divya Prakashini’s Kuchipudi performance to ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon,’ which moved FIA President Hemant Patel to tears. Patel invited retired Army officers to the stage, saluting them in an emotional moment of solidarity.
