Opposition slams Trump’s remarks on PM Modi, says both leaders ‘making the world fools’
Opposition parties in India launched sharp attacks on U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing both leaders of misleading the world and undermining India’s global image.
Congress leader Manoj Kumar criticized Trump for his contradictory statements, noting that the U.S. President praised Modi as a “great Prime Minister” while simultaneously questioning India’s actions. “Both Trump and PM Modi are making the world fools,” Kumar said, urging Modi to respond firmly.
Kumar also questioned Trump’s past outreach to countries linked with terrorism, accusing him of hypocrisy. “Trump should not interfere in our internal matters, and our Prime Minister should not remain silent,” he added.
RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said Modi’s past support for Trump during U.S. elections has backfired, while Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Singh demanded answers on why the U.S. continues to impose high tariffs if relations are strong.
Trump, however, sought to strike a conciliatory note at a White House press briefing, calling Modi a “great Prime Minister” and assuring that U.S.-India ties remain “special.” Modi responded on X, saying he “deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates” Trump’s remarks, calling the partnership forward-looking.
