Raja Krishnamoorthi Steps Up on Global and Local Fronts: From Punjab’s Floods to Illinois Families
Congressman pushes accountability in Washington, calls out Trump policies on health and energy, demands Epstein transparency, defends immigrants, and urges compassion for flood-stricken Punjab
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) has launched a series of high-profile initiatives in recent weeks, focusing on protecting children’s health, addressing rising energy costs, demanding accountability in the Epstein investigation, and standing up for immigrant and South Asian communities.
As Ranking Member of the House Oversight Subcommittee, Krishnamoorthi co-led a hearing titled “Better Meals, Fewer Pills: Making Our Children Healthy Again,” where he criticized the Trump administration for undermining vital programs. He raised concerns over SNAP cuts, Medicaid rollbacks, and vaccine misinformation promoted by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., while also pressing officials on shutting down an LGBTQ youth suicide prevention hotline and the impact of tariffs on food prices. “Children in Illinois and across America deserve better,” Krishnamoorthi said, vowing to continue fighting for accountability.
On the energy front, he sent a letter to Energy Secretary Chris Wright warning of an average $180 annual increase in Illinois household electricity bills starting in 2026. He blamed Trump’s rollback of clean energy incentives under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which he said has already cost Illinois families jobs and higher utility bills. He pledged to fight for restoring renewable energy projects to ensure affordability, reliability, and sustainability.
Krishnamoorthi has also been outspoken in pressing for the full release of the Epstein files, citing newly disclosed documents that revealed disturbing ties and behavior among powerful figures. In interviews with Rachel Maddow and Kasie Hunt, he emphasized that “without transparency, there can be no accountability — and without accountability, there can be no justice.”
Closer to home, Krishnamoorthi condemned the Trump administration’s immigration raids and threats to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, calling such actions unconstitutional and dangerous. He also criticized the State Department for ending the successful H-1B visa renewal pilot program he had championed, arguing that it undermines immigrant communities and hurts the U.S. economy.
At the international level, Krishnamoorthi spoke out strongly on the devastating floods in Punjab, India — the region’s worst in three decades. Entire villages, farms, and livelihoods have been washed away, leaving families in despair. In a statement and video message, he offered his “deepest sympathies and condolences” to the people of Punjab, noting that “farmers who planted their crops have seen their harvests wiped out in the blink of an eye.” He urged the global community to extend aid and assistance, stressing that “let us all pray for them, and at the same time, let us do our part to help the afflicted. Let’s remember our common humanity.”
The congressman continues to stay engaged with constituents through initiatives such as hosting a passport fair in Schaumburg, encouraging students to participate in the 2025 Congressional App Challenge, and speaking out against political violence after the shooting of Charlie Kirk. “Violence must be unacceptable in every form,” he said, urging unity against extremism.
From Capitol Hill to Illinois, and from Punjab to Chicago, Krishnamoorthi has framed his agenda around one theme: accountability and compassion — to children, families, immigrant communities, and survivors of injustice — while standing firm against policies he says harm Illinois and the nation.
