Formula 1 unveils six Sprint venues for 2026 season, adds three new hosts
Formula One has announced the six circuits set to host Sprint weekends during the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship, including three debut venues.
The 2026 season, which will mark the introduction of new technical regulations and a new generation of cars, will see the Sprint format entering its sixth year. The first Sprint of the season will be held in Shanghai, followed by Miami, both returning for a third consecutive year. Silverstone, which staged the inaugural Sprint in 2021, will return to the calendar, while Montréal, Zandvoort, and Singapore will host their first-ever Sprint weekends.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the format offers more value for fans and partners. “With four competitive sessions across the weekend instead of two, Sprint events bring more action, drive higher attendance, and attract stronger broadcast viewership,” he noted. “The 2026 season will usher in a new era of regulations, and the addition of new venues will further heighten the excitement.”
The Sprint format, featuring qualifying on Friday, the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, and the main race on Sunday, has grown in popularity. F1 reported that viewership for Sprint weekends in 2024 was on average 10% higher than non-Sprint weekends. The 2025 season has also seen significant increases, including a record 84% jump in live TV audience during Lewis Hamilton’s Shanghai Sprint win for Ferrari.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem welcomed the development, saying the inclusion of new venues “reflects the enthusiasm of promoters, teams, and fans as the Sprint continues to evolve with the sport’s broader ambitions.”
