The BSC of Chicago hosted a vibrant literary event for senior citizens on Sunday, at the Rana Reagan Center, drawing an enthusiastic gathering of 500 writers, artists, and dignitaries from the local Gujarati community. The event, held in two sessions at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., celebrated Gujarati literature, poetry, and culture within the diaspora.
BSC President Haribhai Patel welcomed attendees, setting a warm and festive tone for the day. Laughter and reflection followed with performances by renowned poet Raeesh Maniar, who recited works including Reunion with Jalpadi, engaging the audience with his thought-provoking poetry. The program also featured ‘Mahol Musayro’ performances by Asharaf Dabawala, Madhumati Mehta, and Anil Chavda, offering music and storytelling that resonated across generations.
“This program is not just about literature. It’s about celebrating our roots, building bridges across generations, and keeping Gujarati alive in our hearts,” said Raeesh Maniar.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Asharaf Dabawala, Haribhai Patel, Anil Chavda, and Raeesh Maniar, expressing gratitude to the senior attendees for their engagement and appreciation throughout the program.
The gathering reinforced the importance of preserving Gujarati language and culture while fostering community connection and intergenerational dialogue.
