Petition filed in Islamabad High Court over Imran Khan’s X posts during imprisonment

A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking action against the alleged inflammatory posts shared from the social media account of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan while he remains in prison.

The plea, submitted by Ghulam Murtaza Khan through Barrister Zafarullah Khan, argues that sharing “provocative and malicious” content from a convicted prisoner’s account violates prison rules and national law, Dawn reported.

The petitioner asked the court to direct the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to investigate who has been operating Khan’s X account, and to block such posts. He also urged restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from redistributing the content.

Imran Khan, 72, jailed since August 2023, faces multiple cases including the Toshakhana reference. Despite incarceration, posts critical of Army Chief Asim Munir — accusing him of psychological torture, authoritarian rule, and worsening Pakistan’s economy — continue to appear on Khan’s account.

The petition seeks stricter enforcement of jail regulations and accountability over the political use of social media during imprisonment.
