Know India Programme offers diaspora youth an immersive cultural experience
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) continues its flagship initiative, the Know India Programme (KIP), aimed at connecting Indian-origin youth with their ancestral roots.
Open to participants aged 21 to 35, the three-week immersive programme provides a firsthand exploration of India’s heritage, democratic institutions, and economic progress. Each edition hosts up to 40 youth, with priority given to those from Girmitiya countries, where Indian indentured laborers migrated during the colonial era. The government provides full hospitality and covers 90 percent of international airfare, making the programme accessible to diaspora youth worldwide.
Participants experience India through cultural performances, visits to historical landmarks, universities, and research centers, and interactions with government officials and industry leaders. Sessions on Yoga, Ayurveda, and traditional knowledge, as well as exposure to initiatives such as Digital India, Skill India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and StartUp India, highlight the nation’s blend of tradition and innovation.
The programme, managed through the KIP Portal at https://kip.gov.in/, encourages diaspora youth to rediscover their heritage while becoming ambassadors for India’s evolving identity.
