Trump extends Diwali greetings, calls festival ‘a timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness’

US President Donald Trump extended warm greetings to millions celebrating Diwali across the United States and the world, describing it as a “timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness.”

In a presidential message, Trump said, “Today, I send my best wishes to every American celebrating Diwali — the Festival of Lights. For many Americans, Diwali is a timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness. It is also a time to bring families and friends together to celebrate community, draw strength from hope, and embrace renewal. As millions light diyas and lanterns, we rejoice in the eternal truth that good will always triumph over evil.”

The President’s message was echoed by key members of his administration and lawmakers from both parties. FBI Director Kash Patel, the first Indian-American to lead the bureau, also shared Diwali greetings on X, saying, “Happy Diwali — celebrating the Festival of Lights around the world, as good triumphs over evil.” Patel, who took his oath of office earlier this year with his hand on the Bhagavad Gita, described Diwali as a global celebration of faith and resilience.

Prominent Indian-American leaders joined in the festivities. Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy posted, “Happy Diwali! May the light prevail over darkness.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted Diwali celebrations at his mansion in Austin, attended by India’s Consul General DC Manjunath and community members.

Indian-American lawmakers across party lines — including Congressman Ro Khanna, Pete Sessions, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Suzan DelBene — also conveyed their greetings, highlighting Diwali’s growing recognition as a cultural and spiritual festival of unity in the United States.
