EAM Jaishankar wishes Austria on National Day, reaffirms commitment to advance partnership

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday extended warm greetings to Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger and the people of Austria on the occasion of their National Day, reiterating India’s commitment to deepening the Enhanced India-Austria Partnership.

Sharing his message on X along with a photograph with Meinl-Reisinger, Jaishankar wrote: “Felicitations to FM Beate Meinl-Reisinger, the Government and the people of Austria on their National Day. Look forward to advancing the Enhanced India-Austria Partnership.”

Earlier this week, the Austrian Embassy in India also extended Diwali greetings, highlighting the warmth of the growing cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

EAM Jaishankar and Meinl-Reisinger last met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, where they discussed key global issues, including European and Indo-Pacific security dynamics.

In May, the ministers held a telephonic conversation during which Jaishankar congratulated Meinl-Reisinger on her appointment as Foreign Minister. Both leaders emphasized zero tolerance toward terrorism and expressed strong opposition to nuclear blackmail, underscoring shared values in global diplomacy.

India and Austria established diplomatic relations in 1949, marking over seven decades of robust engagement in areas such as trade, technology, and culture. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Austria last year—coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties—further strengthened cooperation. During the visit, PM Modi met President Alexander Van der Bellen and then-Chancellor Karl Nehammer, and addressed the India-Austria Business Meeting in Vienna.

The two nations continue to build on their strategic dialogue, fostering collaboration in innovation, renewable energy, education, and global peace efforts.
