CDS Anil Chauhan strengthens Defence, maritime cooperation with Indonesia
India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan met his Indonesian counterpart, General Agus Subiyanto, Commander-in-Chief of Indonesia’s Armed Forces, in Jakarta to strengthen Defence cooperation, maritime collaboration, and regional security ties between the two nations.
Both leaders held extensive discussions covering Defence industrial cooperation, capacity building, innovation, and joint research and development. They also explored new areas such as collaboration in satellite technology and maritime industries to enhance regional resilience and security in the Indo-Pacific.
The Indian Embassy in Jakarta said the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to expand ongoing initiatives, including joint military exercises, information exchange, and Defence industry partnerships. “This engagement underscores India’s commitment to fostering a robust Defence and maritime partnership with Indonesia,” the Embassy said in a post on X.
General Subiyanto praised the long-standing cultural and historical links between the two nations and expressed hope for greater cooperation between their armed forces.
On Tuesday, CDS Chauhan also met Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to discuss further collaboration in Defence capacity building and military medicine, including specialist training programs for Indonesian Armed Forces doctors.
The CDS’s official visit, from October 26–31, aims to advance Defence cooperation and follow up on outcomes from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s State visit to India earlier this year. Both nations are working toward building a comprehensive strategic partnership rooted in mutual respect and regional stability.
India and Indonesia, as maritime neighbors in the Indo-Pacific, continue to collaborate closely on ensuring freedom of navigation, maritime domain awareness, and a rules-based regional order.
