
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria graces ‘Operation Sindoor Cricket Cup 2025’ at Panjab University

The spirit of patriotism and youth empowerment filled the grounds of Panjab University, Chandigarh, as Hon’ble Governor of Punjab Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji presided as the Chief Guest on the second day of the “Operation Sindoor Cricket Cup 2025.” The three-day tournament celebrates the valor and sacrifice of India’s Army, Navy, and Air Force, uniting students, faculty, and veterans under the banner of national pride and service.
The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Amandeep Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Evening Studies–MDRC, and Coordinator of the event. Dr. Singh highlighted that “Operation Sindoor” symbolizes the collective gratitude of India’s youth toward the nation’s defenders, channeling their enthusiasm into a tribute of courage and unity.

Governor Kataria’s message: Sports as a shield against drug abuse
Addressing the gathering, Governor Kataria commended Panjab University for nurturing the ideals of discipline, teamwork, and resilience through sports. He expressed concern over the rising menace of drug abuse among youth and emphasized that active engagement in sports is the best deterrent—channeling energy toward positivity, physical health, and nation-building.
He lauded the organizers for integrating patriotism and wellness through an event that not only honors India’s soldiers but also inspires young Indians to lead meaningful, service-oriented lives.
Felicitation and acknowledgements
During the felicitation ceremony, Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig presented a memento to the Hon’ble Governor as a token of respect and gratitude. In turn, the Governor felicitated Sh. Vinod Mittal Ji, Managing Director of Nik Baker’s, acknowledging his continuous contributions to youth and community development.
