India, Bahrain reaffirm centuries-old partnership, vow to deepen cooperation in trade, defence, and technology
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday underscored the enduring bond between India and Bahrain, calling it a “centuries-old friendship” rooted in trade and people-to-people ties, as he co-chaired the 5th India–Bahrain High Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
Highlighting shared goals of peace and prosperity, Jaishankar said, “India and Bahrain share centuries-old ties of friendship underpinned by trade linkages and strong people-to-people ties. Since our last HJC meeting, we have made significant progress in defence, security, trade, commerce, health, and culture. Emerging areas such as space, fintech, and technology hold immense promise for our partnership.”
Congratulating Bahrain for successfully hosting the 21st Manama Dialogue, Jaishankar also extended best wishes as the Gulf nation prepares to assume the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) presidency next month. He expressed confidence that with Bahrain’s leadership, India–GCC cooperation will continue to strengthen.
On maritime collaboration, Jaishankar lauded India’s participation in the Combined Maritime Forces based in Manama, noting that the recent visit of three Indian naval ships in September 2025 reinforced regional security and mutual trust.
The minister invited Bahraini investors to explore opportunities in India’s growing economy, adding that the proposed Bilateral Investment Treaty and a Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment will enhance economic engagement.
He also pointed to progress in healthcare, space collaboration, and cultural exchange, including India’s recent e-visa launch for Bahraini nationals to boost tourism and business travel.
Reiterating India’s commitment to regional peace, Jaishankar voiced support for the Gaza peace plan, expressing hope it would lead to a lasting resolution in West Asia.
The meeting reflected a shared vision of expanding India–Bahrain ties through strategic cooperation, innovation, and mutual prosperity.
