In a ceremony filled with gratitude and community pride, Dr. Dipak Ghosh, Ph.D., was honored with the Village of Woodridge’s highest civilian award—Citizen of the Year. A resident for 32 years, Dr. Ghosh was recognized for decades of volunteerism, leadership in cultural organizations, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of local residents.
Dr. Ghosh was nominated by longtime residents Nancy Monbrod and Dr. Angelo Calvello, who praised his extensive contributions to health education, senior wellness, and community engagement. For many years, he has organized health seminars featuring expert speakers on cardiac health, fall prevention, weight management, COVID-19 awareness, and general wellness—programs benefiting countless seniors in Woodridge and surrounding areas.
His commitment extends beyond health education. For over two decades, Dr. Ghosh has served the Bengali Association of Greater Chicago (BAGC), first as President and later as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Under his leadership, the organization promoted cultural programming across Chicagoland and raised funds for local charities, strengthening bonds among diverse communities.
Dr. Ghosh’s charitable work is equally impactful. He has volunteered at soup kitchens, supported the West Suburban Community Pantry, and inspired new donors to join efforts to alleviate hunger. Nationally, he has been recognized for contributions to health and personal care industries, including listings in Who’s Who in America for innovation in research and development.
One of his most celebrated achievements is his role as a founding member of the Human Relations Advisory Committee (HRAC). Under his guidance, Woodridge launched its first Diwali—Festival of Lights celebration. Now in its third year, the event attracts more than 300 attendees, including Mayor Gina Cunningham, Village Board members, and representatives from the Consulate General of India, becoming a symbol of unity, inclusion, and cultural pride.
A heartfelt acceptance
Upon receiving the award, Dr. Ghosh expressed deep gratitude, thanking Mayor Cunningham, the Village Board, and his nominators. He offered special appreciation to his wife, Anulekha, calling her “the architect and anchor of our home,” crediting her steadfast support as the foundation of his community work.
Dr. Ghosh reflected on the inspiration of his father, Dr. Sudhir Ghosh, a small-town physician in India who helped establish the town’s first high school in 1939. “From him,” Dr. Ghosh said, “I learned that whenever we have the opportunity to serve, we must do so with humility, sincerity, and a full heart.”
A lasting community legacy
Dr. Ghosh’s contributions touch nearly every corner of Woodridge—from cultural programming to health advocacy to charitable outreach. His recognition as Citizen of the Year celebrates not only his past achievements but also his ongoing commitment to building a more connected, compassionate, and inclusive community.
The Village of Woodridge proudly honors Dr. Dipak Ghosh and looks forward to the impact of his leadership for years to come.
