Usha Vance announces pregnancy with fourth child, makes history as first US Second Lady to give birth in office

Usha Vance, the wife of United States Vice President J.D. Vance, has announced that she is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child, a baby boy expected to be born in July. The announcement, made via social media, has drawn widespread congratulations and marks a historic moment in American political life.

In a post on X, Usha Vance shared the news with a simple but joyful message: “We’re very happy to share some exciting news. Our family is growing!” The post was accompanied by a statement from Vice President J.D. Vance confirming the pregnancy and expressing gratitude for the medical care his family has received.

“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” the Vice President said. “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”

Vance also thanked the military doctors and healthcare staff who are supporting his family during this period. He noted that their dedication allows public servants to continue their duties while maintaining a strong family life.

The announcement makes Usha Vance the first Second Lady in US history to give birth while her husband is in office. While several First Ladies in the past have welcomed children during presidential terms, no Second Lady has previously done so, adding a unique historical dimension to the moment.

The news has brought a personal and human touch to the early months of the Vance vice presidency, highlighting the balance between national responsibility and family commitments at the highest levels of government.

Usha and J.D. Vance are already parents to three young children — two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel. The arrival of their fourth child will further expand their growing family.

Born and raised in the working-class suburbs of San Diego, California, Usha Vance is the daughter of Indian immigrants from Andhra Pradesh. Her father is a mechanical engineer, while her mother is a molecular biologist, reflecting a strong academic and professional background that has shaped her career.

Usha Vance met J.D. Vance while studying at Yale Law School in 2010, where both were part of a discussion group examining social and economic challenges in American society. Before becoming Second Lady, she built a distinguished legal career, working as a corporate litigator at the prominent law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson in San Francisco.

She has also served as a law clerk for Chief Justice John Roberts of the US Supreme Court and for Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his tenure on the US Court of Appeals, before his elevation to the Supreme Court.

As Second Lady, Usha Vance has been widely viewed as a symbol of modern American leadership, blending professional excellence, multicultural heritage, and family values. Her pregnancy announcement has been welcomed across political lines, resonating with many as a reminder of the shared human experiences behind public office.
