VP Radhakrishnan meets Seychelles President, reviews 50 years of partnership

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Monday called on Seychelles President Patrick Herminie in New Delhi, with both leaders committing to deepen cooperation across strategic, economic and people-centric domains as the two nations mark 50 years of diplomatic ties.

According to the Vice President’s Secretariat, the meeting focused on expanding collaboration in maritime security, renewable energy, healthcare, higher education, hospitality and digitalisation. Radhakrishnan recalled his visit to Seychelles in October 2025 for Herminie’s swearing-in and underscored India’s stake in a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indian Ocean Region.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive talks with President Herminie, who is on a state visit to India from February 5–10. Modi congratulated him on his electoral victory and described India–Seychelles ties as a “time-tested maritime partnership” rooted in shared democratic values, historical links and people-to-people connect.

Both leaders reaffirmed that Seychelles is a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and a pillar of security in the Western Indian Ocean. They also unveiled a Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL) to guide future cooperation.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit—coming within 100 days of Herminie’s inauguration—signals strong mutual commitment and coincides with Seychelles’ 50th independence anniversary and five decades of bilateral relations.

President Herminie acknowledged India as a trusted development partner and thanked New Delhi for sustained support in infrastructure, capacity building and maritime security.

The visit also saw the exchange of multiple MoUs in health, digital technology, meteorology, culture, ocean science, food systems and governance.
