CMAA ushers in Lunar New Year 2026 in Chicago celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse

The Chinese Mutual Aid Association’s annual festival brings together hundreds of community members, elected officials, and diplomats for cultural performances, family activities, and recognition of civic champions.

The Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) will host its annual Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, February 21st, at St. Augustine College, welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse, a once-in-60-years zodiac milestone symbolizing rapid change, courage, and independence. The event, from 10 a.m. to noon, is expected to draw approximately 600 participants, including CMAA clients, staff, community leaders, and a distinguished roster of local, state, and federal elected officials, along with foreign diplomats.

Guests will enjoy vibrant cultural performances, family-friendly activities, raffle prizes, community resource booths, and complimentary food, highlighting the richness of Chinese traditions while promoting cross-cultural engagement.

This year, CMAA will present special recognition to U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky for their long-standing advocacy on behalf of immigrant and refugee communities, honoring their leadership in advancing rights, healthcare access, and public services.

Founded by refugees in 1981, CMAA serves thousands annually from more than 40 countries through social services, education, job training, adult ESL classes, and economic development programs. The celebration underscores the organization’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering community solidarity and civic engagement across Chicago’s diverse immigrant population.
